The Universidade Federal Fluminense is located in Niterói, a city just across the Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro. Niterói used to be the regional capital of Guanabara state, until it merged with Rio de Janeiro state, when the city of Rio took over as state capital.

If you’re in Rio you can reach Niterói using the convenient ferry service from the city center, departing from Praça XV. A ticket will set you back only R$2,30 and give you beautiful views of the bay. Take the ferry to the city center, *not* the one to Charitas, a further-off port in Niterói.

After getting off the ferry in Niterói, turn right and walk for about 250 m until the traffic light. Cross only the first lane and walk to the right about 50m more to get to the bus stop. There you can take the 47 bus and get off at the back of the campus, or the 47A which will leave you by the seaside, close to the physics building.

Note that the physics building is on the Praia Vermelha campus, *not* the Gragoatá campus. They’re close to each other, but the Gragoatá one is a bit nearer to the ferry station. Both can be reached by foot as well, if you’re willing to walk for 20min or so.
